Java vs Bedrock RAM usage

Java Edition usually needs more RAM, especially with Forge, Fabric, Paper plugins, larger worlds or heavier server settings. Bedrock Edition is generally lighter, so it can often handle similar player counts with less memory.

We still recommend allowing some spare headroom so your server has room to grow and you can upgrade later if needed.

Quick RAM guide

  • 2GB: small Java vanilla servers or most small Bedrock servers.
  • 4GB: small plugin servers, light Java mods or busier Bedrock servers.
  • 6GB–8GB: heavier plugins, more players or medium Java modpacks.
  • 10GB+: large Java modpacks, bigger worlds or busy communities.
